What is a Fan Coil Retrofit?
Vertical fan coil (VFC) units are a popular type of HVAC system used in condominiums and other high-rise buildings. If your building uses VFCs, you will typically find them within cabinets built into the walls of residential units. Behind the doors of these cabinets, VFCs circulate hot or cold water through a coil, which - with the help of a fan - heats or cools the space.
Depending on a VFC’s environment and usage, a unit will usually last about 20 years, around which point it will need to be replaced. Fortunately, most cabinet-style devices do not require a complete replacement – rather, in many cases you can simply remove the original chassis and slide a new one into the existing enclosure.
